Parent questions
We have grouped the questions we hear most during visits. Ask anything else by phone or when you visit.
Montessori
In a Montessori school, can a child "do whatever they want"?
No. A child chooses among the works that have been presented to them; once chosen, they are expected to finish it, tidy it and put it back on the shelf. The choice is free but the limits are clear: not disturbing someone else's work, taking care of materials, walking in the room. These limits give children security.
Is Çınaraltı accredited by an international Montessori body?
In Türkiye there is no official body that "accredits" schools as Montessori. Our assurance is our guides' training: our founder and guides hold AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) diplomas. We show the diplomas during visits, and they are listed person by person on the Team page.
Will my child learn to read here?
Most children in the Children's House learn sounds and letters and build words with the moveable alphabet; some start reading before six. But we do not impose reading as a target. Interest in letters wakes at different times in each child; the guide waits for that moment and presents the material then.
Enrolment and settling in
How does settling in work?
We start with one hour on the first day while the parent waits in the garden. When the child is ready, the time grows a little each day. Most Nest children move to a full day in two to three weeks, Children's House children in one to two. We set the calendar together based on the child's response.
Is the pre-enrolment form a final enrolment?
No. Pre-enrolment passes your interest and contact details to us. We call you within two working days to set a day for a visit and meeting. Final enrolment is done at school with a contract once a place is confirmed.
Can children start mid-year?
Yes, if there is a place. In a mixed-age group a child who joins mid-year settles in more easily, because the older children show them how the room works. Most places open up in September and February.
During the day
What if my child does not sleep?
In the Nest the child's rhythm sets sleep time; a child who does not sleep or wakes early moves quietly to the play room. The Children's House has a rest hour, but sleep is not compulsory: a child who does not sleep carries on with quiet work.
Can we get updates during the day? Are there cameras?
There are no live-stream cameras in the classrooms; we care that children do not feel watched while they work. The garden gate and entrance have security cameras. If anything urgent happens we call you at once; at the end of the day you get a short spoken note at the door, and twice a term a written observation report.
What does my child need to bring?
A spare set of clothes, non-slip indoor shoes and, for the Nest, a small blanket they love for sleep time. Boots, raincoat, apron, nappies and all materials are at school. Toys and food from home are not brought in.
Health and safety
What happens if my child gets ill?
A child with a temperature of 38 °C or more, vomiting or diarrhoea is sent home after we call the parent; the child should not return before 24 hours without fever. Medicine is given only with a doctor's prescription and the parent's written instruction. These rules protect the other children.
Who can collect my child?
A child is handed only to the adults you list in writing at enrolment. If someone not on the list is coming, you need to tell us by phone the same day and that person must show ID. The garden gate is the single entrance and has a camera.
Do the guides have first aid training?
Yes. All our guides and assistants have current first aid training; our Nest guide also has infant and child first aid training. We collect health and medication information not at pre-enrolment but at final enrolment, with a written privacy notice.
Are children's photos shared?
We never publish photos showing children's faces on our website or social media without the parent's written consent. Most photos on the site show hands, backs and materials. Photos from the day are shared only with that child's parents.
Fees and transport
What is included in the fee?
Breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack; all Montessori materials and art supplies; boots, raincoat and apron kept at school; nappies and wipes in the Nest. Transport, the yearly registration and material renewal fee and optional outings are extra. Details are on the Fees page.
Are there sibling and advance-payment discounts?
There is a 10% sibling discount from the second child and 7% off the 10-month total for paying the year in advance. The two discounts are not combined; whichever suits you applies.
Which areas does the school transport cover?
Central Urla and İskele, Çeşmealtı and Kuşçular, Gülbahçe and İYTE, and Güzelbahçe. Each vehicle has a staff member from our school beside the driver; Nest children travel in child seats. Route times and fees are on the Fees page.
